Call 9-911 on campus to report a crime

Crime victims should always report crimes immediately to the police. On campus, call 9-911. Off campus, call 911. Victims must file a formal report to allow the police to investigate a crime. Once a report is made, the victim is under no obligation to follow through with prosecution.

If the incident involves injuries or sexual assault/rape, victims should go to the nearest emergency room as soon as possible. If the incident involves a sex crime, do not wash or change clothes. If possible, take extra clothing to the hospital, since the clothes that were worn during the incident may need to be kept as evidence.

Follow-up care is of utmost importance, and victims may need testing, medical treatment or counseling services. Although it is highly recommended that victims pursue treatment, they have the right to refuse these options.

Public Safety personnel stress to victims that they are not responsible for crimes committed against them, and that no matter when or where an incident occurred, support services and referral are available.
