For emergencies ONLY, call 9-911
Dispatcher Edward (Ted) Kenny in the Public Safety office
Dial 9-911 for emergencies only. Use this number if you need immediate assistance from law enforcement, the fire department or emergency medical services, in case of fire, for traffic accidents with injuries, choking, crimes in progress and medical emergencies.
When calling 9-911, please remain as calm as possible, speak clearly and give the dispatcher as much information as possible.
When 9-911 is dialed, the Department of Public Safety knows the exact origin of a campus emergency as soon as the call is received. All University phone lines are part of the 911 system, which allows Public Safety personnel to respond immediately and appropriately to each individual's needs.
Please remember that this is an emergency line. All non-emergency calls should be directed to 831-2222. When the emergency lines are tied up with routine calls, it can delay needed medical or police assistance.
If 9-911 is called accidentally, do not hang up. Let the dispatcher know that it was mis-dialed. If the caller hangs up, the dispatcher must call back to verify that there is not an actual emergency.
If verification cannot be obtained, an officer will be sent to the location. This ties up an officer whose services may be needed elsewhere.
