UD, DEL TECH PROFESSORS TO RECEIVE MATH AWARD
William B. Moody, UD professor of education and mathematical sciences, and Denise I. Griffiths, an instructor of mathematics, at the Stanton campus of the Delaware Technical and Community College, will receive the G. Cuthbert Webber Award at a ceremony scheduled at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, May 2, in 206 Kirkbride Hall.
Jane Swafford, director of the Mathematical Sciences Education Board National Research Council, will deliver the keynote address on "Adding It Up: What Research says About How Students Learn mathematics."
The semiannual award honors individuals who have demonstrated special commitment to the service of mathematics education at all levels.
Moody, whose primary interest is the learning and teaching of mathematical concepts among middle grade students through the use of problem-solving situations, has organized and administrated UD's Solve It Mathematics.
The award honors the late Dr. Webber, a member of the UD faculty who taught mathematics for 44 years until his death in 1981.
The event is supported by the Webber family and sponsored by the Committee on Cultural Activities and Public Events. For information, call 831-2653.
