A growing tradition

Whether it is petting a farm animal or picking up plants for spring gardening projects, the University of Delaware is the place to be on Saturday, April 27. Ag Day 2002 will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., on the UD grounds surrounding Townsend and Worrilow halls.

The 28th annual Ag Day celebration features the return of interactive livestock displays, pony rides and other popular animal attractions, including the Brandywine Zoo on Wheels.

The combined effort of UD undergraduates and student clubs, Ag Day offers an informative and entertaining opportunity for children and adults to pet livestock, tour UD's working farm by wagon and take in an antique tractor display.

UD mascots YoUDee and Baby Blue will join clowns and balloon makers at the event, along with E-52 singers Ellen Geyer and Carrie Pessango. WVUD, 91.3 FM, will broadcast live from the scene.

Fans of the television show Survivor can sample culinary curiosities, such as mealworm stir-fry and chocolate chip cricket cookies, or can root for their favorite beetle in a miniature bug race.

Homeowners can bring in insect pests for UD experts to identify at a "What's Bugging You" display, or visitors can check out water conservation exhibits and learn about native wildlife species.

In addition to displays by Longwood Gardens and Winterthur Museum, local 4-H clubs will present educational exhibits, including a Guiding Paws puppy demonstration.
