UD GRAD PROGRAMS TAKE HONORS IN 'U.S. NEWS' GUIDE

The University of Delaware's graduate program in chemical engineering, its College of Engineering and School of Education have been given top marks in the nation in the new edition of Best Graduate Schools, a newsstand book published April 8 by U.S.News & World Report.

UD's graduate chemical engineering program was ranked eighth in the nation, and the College of Engineering was ranked 41st, tying with Michigan State University and Rutgers University at New Brunswick.

The School of Education was ranked 50th, tying with the College of William and Mary, Fordham University and the universities of Connecticut and Tennessee–Knoxville. UD also is listed in a chart on teacher preparation programs at top research education schools.

For the rankings of the College of Engineering and the School of Education, criteria included quality assessment, student selectivity, faculty resources and research activity. The chemical engineering ranking is based on nomination by educators at peer schools.

"These rankings represent continuing recognition at a national level of the quality of our graduate programs," Acting Provost Dan Rich said. "UD has a long and distinguished history in graduate study, and our graduate students play a vital role in our University achievements."

U.S. News, which has been publishing graduate school rankings since 1994, does not rank all disciplines every year.
