LIBRARIAN ELECTED OFFICER OF
PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION BOARD

Gregg A. Silvis, assistant director for library computing systems at the University of Delaware, has been elected vice president of the PALINET Board of Trustees.

Based in Philadelphia and founded in 1936, PALINET is a cooperative membership organization of more than 600 libraries, information centers, museums, archives and other similar organizations located in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. PALINET supports its member library institutions by delivering high-quality, knowledge-based and cost-effective information services that include information access, resource sharing, interlibrary cooperation and educational programs.

Silvis was elected to the PALINET board of trustees in 2000 and became a member of the PALINET executive committee and chair of the PALINET information technology committee in 2001. He has been at the UD Library since 1994, during which time he has implemented cutting edge technology including the provision of a number of electronic services that have been extremely well-received by the UD faculty, students and staff and have garnered national attention for the University of Delaware Library.

He currently is project manager of the Ex Libris Implementation Taskforce, which is overseeing the implementation of a new client/server integrated DELCAT that will supercede the existing DELCAT mainframe-based library system. The new system will offer many enhancements, including improved linking capabilities and many features that have been requested by library users.
