PNC Bank donates a special gift of art

limited edition Bollinger lithograph presented to the University

PNC Bank has donated a special gift to the University of Delaware–the first copy of a limited edition print of Old College. PNC Bank CEO, President and Chairman Calvert A . Morgan presented the painting to UD President David P. Roselle in his office in Hullihen Hall last month

"PNC is pleased to present this specially commissioned artwork to the University of Delaware," Morgan said. "Old College is a historic treasure for the University and the city of Newark. PNC believes it's fitting that this rendering become part of the University's art collection."

Richard Bollinger was commissioned by PNC to paint the winter scene of Old College, which was used for the bank's 2001 holiday greetings. This painting is the 14th in a series of original artwork commissioned by the bank to showcase well-known Delaware attractions.

Old College was painted as it appears today in the historic district of the Newark campus. The print given to UD is the first of 950 reproductions of the painting, signed and numbered by the artist.

Old College Hall opened in 1834 as the only building of New Ark College (now the University of Delaware), with classrooms, assembly room, student and faculty housing, dining facilities – all under one roof. Today, Old College houses classrooms, laboratories and the University Gallery.
