New Facilities Planning director familiar with campus

Vic Costa, a UD employee for 22 years, was named director of Facilities Planning and Construction, effective Nov. 1. At UD, Costa has worked as a scheduler and a project coordinator in plant operations, as assistant director for projects and as manager of the minor construction division.

In his new position, he and his staff are responsible for the planning, design and completion of a majority of UD's construction projects. Currently, he said, the two most visible projects are the renovation and major construction associated with Wolf Hall and DuPont Hall on the Mall.

"In the future," Costa said, "I believe an area of major emphasis will be customer relations, with respect to scheduling and coordinating our services to ensure the satisfaction of our campus clients and users."

Costa said that having worked at UD for more than two decades and knowing his fellow directors in custodial services, administration and facilities management has enabled him to take over the responsibilities of his new position without an extended period of orientation or transition.

According to Robert Stozek, vice president for facilities, "Vic is taking over the leadership of the Planning and Construction group during a time of budget concerns and a slowdown of major projects. He will be looking for ways to improve the processes by which we provide project design and construction services to the University so that we continue to become more efficient, cost-conscious and responsive to the client's needs.

"We're also fortunate," Stozek said, "to be able to take advantage of Vic's many years of facilities-related experience and his familiarity with the University. Our staff and clients throughout the campus are the beneficiaries of his talents and knowledge."
