Soloists and Wind Ensemble in free concert on Dec. 2

The UD Wind Ensemble will present a free concert under the direction of Robert J. Streckfuss, music, at 8 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

Highlighting the concert are performances by soprano Marie Robinson and baritone Jeffrey Chapman in a performance of George Gershwin's "Catfish Row," a suite from Porgy and Bess, arranged for wind ensemble with piano, harp and full percussion section by Donald Hunsberger. Selections include "Summertime," "I Got Plenty o' Nothin'" and "Lawd, I'm on My Way."

The Wind Ensemble also will perform Southern Harmony by Donald Grantham. This 1998 composition is based on tunes from the 1835 songbook Southern Harmony published by William "Singin' Billy" Walker and used extensively throughout the southern United States. Also featured will be Philip Sparke's "Diversions," theme and variations based on a Swiss folktune.
