UD, OperaDelaware collaboration begins Nov. 26

UD's Department of Music and OperaDelaware have announced a year-long collaborative opera workshop project that will include two public performances, the first of them this month on the campus.

Leland Kimball, general director of OperaDelaware, is working with UD's graduate and undergraduate music students this fall as stage director of a program of operatic scenes. Marie Hadley Robinson, music, serves as producer, with music direction provided by Nicole Clouser, also music.

The first public performance will occur at 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 26, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building. Scenes from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute, Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci, Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea, Menotti's The Medium and Purcell's Dido and Aeneas will be presented.

The program will be repeated at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 6, at the OperaDelaware Studios, 4 South Poplar St., Wilmington. Both performances are free.

When the collaboration continues in the spring, OperaDelaware will host a series of master classes with OperaDelaware artists at the University. Students selected by audition will work with stage directors, conductors and singers from OperaDelaware's roster. Training also will be given in make-up and career management.
