5K FUNDRAISING

The Scott Mackler 5K Run/Walk for the ALS Association (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease), sponsored by Temple Beth El's Men's Club, will step off at noon, Sunday, Dec. 2, beginning and ending at the temple at 301 Possum Park Rd.

This year's race honors Mackler, a Newark resident and a physician and researcher for cocaine addiction at the University of Pennsylvania, who has the disease and has begun an assistive technology program for persons with ALS. He is the husband of Lynn Mackler, physical therapy.

The pre-registration fee is $15 ($18 the day of the race). Each registered runner will receive a T-shirt, and refreshments will be served after the race. Awards will be given in different age groups and to the top male and female walkers and runners.
