UD tags available in Pennsylvania

First it was the First State. Next came Maryland. Now, Pennsylvania has joined the illustrious group of states where those popular UD license plates are available to alumni and fans of UD.

UD tags for Keystone State drivers with a registered vehicle will be on the roads soon, now that the state of Pennsylvania has received the minimum number of 300 prepaid orders required to officially start the production process.

Anyone who has a car registered in the three states is eligible for a UD tag. You don't have to be an alumnus, but the tags have been a big hit with UD grads since they first became available in 1996.

There are currently about 940 Delaware UD tags and 125 issued in Maryland.

UD license plate numbers reflect such sentimental items as wedding or engagement dates, birthdays of children and UD football jersey numbers of former players, not to mention graduation years. The most expensive Delaware plates, including UD-1, UD-5, UD-10, UD-18, UD-20 and UD-23, were auctioned off in 1996 in a package bid that came in at $7,230.

Compared to this, the price for a Pennsylvania tag, at a onetime fee of $20, is a real bargain.
