Jazz and ragtime selections to fill Mitchell Hall on Nov. 10
Bit O' Rhythm and the Superior Ragtime Orchestra are combining forces in a performance at 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 10, when the University's Mitchell Hall will showcase jazz and ragtime music from the early 20th century.
Faculty artists Linda Henderson, on piano, and Harvey Price, on xylophone, are the two members of the early ragtime and jazz group, Bit O' Rhythm. The duo has performed together since 1982.
Price is an assistant professor of music at the University where he directs the marimba, steel band and percussion ensembles and also performs in the Faculty Jazz ensemble. He plays percussion with the Philadelphia Orchestra, OperaDelaware and the Opera Company of Philadelphia.
Henderson is on the faculty of the Musical Theatre Department at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She also was musical director of the shows Mother Courage and Threepenny Opera for UD's Professional Theater Training Program, along with various instrumental performances on Broadway.
Henderson and Price also are members of the Superior Ragtime Orchestra, which performs music by such composers as Jelly Roll Morton and W.C. Handy.
They will be joined in the program by performers on bass, trumpet, trombone and clarinet.
Tickets for the Nov. 9 program are $15 for the general public, $10 for faculty, staff alumni and seniors and $6 for students and children. For more information, call 831-8741.
