Master Gardener training set

The Delaware Cooperative Extension is now accepting applications for its Master Gardener volunteer educator training program.

The deadline for applying is Feb. 2, and training sessions will be held Monday and Wednesday mornings from April 2 until June 20. The fee is $50. Scholarships are available based on financial need.

The training sessions will focus on horticultural and education topics, with emphasis on hands-on experience and active learning techniques.

"This training program is designed to make good educators out of good gardeners," Jo Mercer, extension, said. "Trainees pledge to devote volunteer time to help Cooperative Extension provide research-based information to the gardening public. Without this volunteer program, we could not reach nearly as many people as we do now."
