UD National Figure Skating Team to perform on Jan. 7

Pairs silver medalists Tiffany Scott and Philip Dulebohn will headline UD's National Send-Off Figure Skating Exhibition scheduled for 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 7, in the Rust Ice Arena. Olympic and World Team Members Ilia Averbukh and Irena Lobacheva also will be featured.

Tickets are now on sale at UD box offices in the Trabant University Center and the Bob Carpenter Center. Cost is $12 for adults, $10 for UD faculty and staff, $9 for groups and senior citizens and $7 for UD students and children.

All skaters who train at UD and are eligible to participate in the 2001 National Team and the 2001 Junior National Team will perform.

Skaters on the National Team include: Laura Handy and Jon Hunt, 2001 Eastern Pair Champions; Johnny Weir, 2001 Senior Men's Eastern Sectional Champion; Sara Wheat, 2001 Senior Ladies Eastern Section Silver Medalist; Kendra Goodwin and Chris Obzansky, 2001 Junior Dance Eastern Section Champions; Marcy Hinzmann and Ronnie Biancosino, Junior Pairs Pewter Medalists; Debbie Blinder and Jeremy Allen, Junior Pairs Champions; Shaun Rogers, 2001 Junior Men Eastern Sectional Champion; Kate Slattery and Patrick Connelly, 2001 Novice Dance Bronze Medalists; Keri Blakinger and Mark Ladwig, 2001 Novice Pairs Silver Medalists; and Kelsey Drewel, 2001 Novice Ladies Silver Medalist.

Also skating will be these members of the 2001 Junior National Team for UD: Christine Zukowski, 2001 South Atlantic Juvenile Girls Champion; Jenna Syken, 2001 South Atlantic Juvenile Girls Bronze Medalist; Michelle Pennington and Zachary Varraux, 2001 Juvenile Dance competitors; Anna Peng, 2001 South Atlantic Intermediate Ladies Silver Medalist; Kimmie Meissner, 2001 South Atlantic Intermediate Ladies Bronze Medalist; Caitlin and Matthew Dail, 2001 South Atlantic Intermediate Dance Silver Medalists; Ashley Elliot and Paul Hurych, 2001 South Atlantic Intermediate Dance Champions; and Lindsay Cohen and Torsten Joerger, Intermediate Dance competitors.

Teaching institute scheduled during January for faculty

Faculty are invited to participate in the Teaching, Learning and Technology Institute, scheduled Jan. 2-31. The institute will feature hands-on, interactive, practical workshop sessions on the tools of technology that support and assist teaching and learning, such as:

• Problem-based learning-integration of technology with active learning,

• Teaching resources,

• Effective grant writing,

• Multimedia development,

• Design of online teaching and learning environments,

• Video streaming,

• Web page creation,

• Internet skills and

• Course management software: Web-CT.

The professional development event is cosponsored by Information Technologies (IT)/ User Services and PRESENT, IT/ User Services/University Media Services, Institute for Transforming Undergraduate Education (ITUE), Office of Educational Technology–College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy, UD Library, Office of Women's Affairs and the Center for Teaching Effectiveness.
