Finale of 'Road to Presidency' Ralph Begleiter, Edward F. and Elizabeth Goodman Rosenberg Professor of Communication, and Joseph Pika, professor of political science and international relations (background), talk to students on the last day of their "Road to the Presidency" class, which was jointly sponsored by communication and political science and international relations. The course took students into campaign headquarters, the Republican National Convention and news organizations to get a hands-on look at how presidential campaigns are run and covered by the news media. This was to have been a wrap-up session when students analyzed the incumbent president's and defeated candidate's campaigns. Since the election hadn't been decided by Dec. 4, the class focused on how the election got to the state that it did and how to prevent another stalemate. One student suggested Begleiter and Pika hold a winter seminar so "we can actually discuss the outcome." Barbara Garrison |
