The Sico Foundation offers scholarships of $1,000 per year to UD students who reside in Delaware or nine Pennsylvania counties where the Sico Co., which is involved in oil products, heating and air conditioning, does business. The scholarships are in memory of Clarence Schock, 1865-1955, the founder of the company and foundation. Currently, there are 70 Sico Foundation scholarship recipients at UD. The 2000 scholarship recipients are Jasen P. Book, Lancaster, Pa.; Ryan P. Cox, Middletown, Del.; Heather M. Connelly, Lititz, Pa.; Emily M. Cygan, Leesport, Pa.; Michelle D. Dowd, Reading, Pa.; Richard R. Eidle Jr., Boyertown, Pa.; Emily R. Frey, Robert T. Mingoia and Melissa A. Sklut, all Newark; Michael J. Hall, Wyoming; Zachary S. Houp, Fleetwood, Pa.; Matthew D. Jenkins, Adam N. Marshall, David R. Marshall, Heather A. Rutter and Lynsey J. Welch, all Wilmington; Abby L. Phillips, Glen Rock, Pa.; and Danielle E. Wall, Newtown Square, Pa. Sico scholarship winners are selected on the basis of academic promise, scholastic achievement and financial need. The scholarships are renewable for three additional years provided the recipient is enrolled as a full-time student at UD and demonstrates satisfactory academic progress. High school seniors from Delaware and the nine Pennsylvania counties must apply for admission to UD by Jan. 15 and may apply for the scholarships by April 1 through the Office of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid. Each year 18 recipients and approximately 25 alternates are chosen. For further information, call 831-8081. |
