Check out top campus web sites Web Site to Watch" is a feature that presents campus sites that have been selected by Web Refreshment Team members as examples of some of the best things now happening on the web at UD. According to Joy Lynam, Information Technologies/ Management Information Services and a leader of the Web Refreshment Team, "The designs and content of these sites illustrate the principles, standards and criteria suggested by the Web Refreshment Team and deserve to be recognized for a job well done." Units and individuals interested in refining their web sites should check out the Web Developer Idea Center at [www.udel.edu/ideacenter]. Also, to help reduce web users' frustrations and enhance accessibility, departments that make changes to their web sitesincluding URL changesare asked to inform Management Information Services so that unit can notify others who may be linking to those pages. A listing of recent and new Idea Center pages is continually maintained at [http://www. udel.edu/ideacenter/ whatsnew.html]. Safety first!
"The purpose of creating the site was to facilitate the safety program in general and to serve the University community," Robin Elliott, director of occupational health and safety, said. "We also wanted to assist the Safety Committee chairs and chemical hygiene officers with their job of addressing safety concerns in their departments." Among the features on the OHS web site is the chemical redistribution page, which allows laboratory workers to post unwanted chemicals on a list for other lab workers to claim. This helps to reduce chemical waste while providing free chemicals where they are needed.
By visiting OHS online, web browsers also can find out "What's New," in health and safety on the national and local level, as well as read about the "Department of the Month," which showcases new initiatives that other units and departments at UD may find useful. "The site is highly usable and accessible," Lynam said. "There is more text than graphics, and the links are usually text, not images, so they are quickly found by visitors." [www.udel.edu/OHS/] |
