Student running for a good cause in Dublin fall marathon

Many UD runners take part in marathons for good causes, but Nicole Mitchell, a junior majoring in elementary education, is going international–running on Oct. 30 in the Dublin marathon in Ireland for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America through an affiliated organization, Team in Training.

Mitchell has been training for the 26-mile-plus course during the spring, summer and fall with her team each weekend in Philadelphia.

The team is running for two-year-old Mark Rodgers from King of Prussia, Pa., who has been diagnosed with leukemia but is currently in remission.

The team has received letters, pictures and a poster of Mark and his family.

Mitchell said she keeps the poster at the foot of her bed to remind her of why she is waking up so early each morning to run and spending weekends training.

Mitchell's goal is to raise $5,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Anyone wishing to contribute may send a check, payable to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, to Nicole Mitchell, 715 Clovelly Lane, Devon, PA 19333.
