UD earns America East Commissioner's Cup...again

For the ninth straight year, the University of Delaware athletics program has won the Stuart P. Haskell Jr. Commissioner's Cup as the top overall program in the America East Conference.

Delaware has won the award all nine years that it has been a member of the league.

The cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic program in America East as determined by a scoring system that rewards a school for success both during the regular season and at the championship competition in the conference's 21 sports.

"We are extremely proud to have been awarded the Commissioner's Cup once again," Edgar N. Johnson, athletics, free. "We take great pride in having a successful, broad-based program, and our student-athletes and coaches should be commended for their hard work."

Delaware, which won league championship titles in baseball, men's swimming, and men's outdoor track and field during the 1999-2000 season, recorded 424 points to outdistance runner-up Boston University (325), Hofstra (320), Towson (292), Northeastern (273), Vermont (252), New Hampshire (246), Maine (239), Hartford (235) and Drexel (202). Boston University and Hofstra each won five conference titles during the 1999-2000 season, while Hartford, Northeastern, and Vermont each won two titles.

In addition to the three championship titles, Delaware also received the second highest point total (regular season and championship) in men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, softball and women's tennis. Both the Blue Hen men's and women's basketball teams placed third in conference standings.
