Workshops cover topics from stress to handling holidays

The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) will offer a series of workshops for employees this fall, ranging from a workshop in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Week to sessions on stress and anxiety and dealing with loss.

Fall program includes:?

  • "What's Love Got to Do with It?" presented in conjunction with the Sexual Assault Awareness Week Planning Committee, facilitated by Donna Tuites, FSAP, and Nancy Nutt, Wellspring– recognizing dating violence and the warning signs and potential risks of abusive relations, noon-1:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, Room 209/211, Trabant University Center;

  • "What, Me Worry?" facilitated by Peggy Lubin, licensed professional counselor, Jewish Family Service of Delaware– controlling excessive worry and learning healthy ways to cope with chronic worry and reconnect with people, activities and ideas that matter, noon-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17, 130 General Services Building;

  • "Beyond Stress," facilitated by: Dawn Shupe, senior community educator, Mental Health Association– understanding common stressors in life and determining when they are "beyond stress," with such symptoms as inability to sleep, feeling keyed up, racing heartbeat, constant fatigue and poor concentration, which may indicate a depressive or anxiety disorder that can be treated, noon-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 31, 130 General Services Building;

  • "How Do You React to Conflict? Recognizing Your Conflict Management Style," facilitated by Patricia Porter, Conflict Resolution Program, Institute for Public Administration–recognizing that people respond to conflict in different ways and learning how to recognize one's own conflict management style and that of others to better deal with conflict, noon-1:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9, 185 Graham Hall;

  • "What Helps Children Cope with Their Parents' Divorce?" facilitated by Valarie Molaison, licensed psychologist and program director of Supporting K.I.D.D.S–helping children adjust to changes and losses experienced by a family involved in divorce, noon-1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28, 209 Trabant Student Center; and

  • "Handling the Holidays," facilitated by Linda Wills, Delaware Hospice–participants who have experienced the loss of a loved one will explore strategies to help cope, make the holidays less stressful and find special ways to celebrate the loved one's life throughout the year, noon-1:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, 209 Trabant Student Center,.
