Pacesetters give United Way Campaign a head start

With U, there's a way" is the theme for the 2000 United Way campaign. The annual kickoff reception for this year's campus United Way drive is scheduled for Oct. 12, and the campaign will continue through Oct. 31, according to chairperson Joyce Dennis Henderson, Career Services Center. This year's UD campaign goal is $210,000.

The University's 2000 United Way drive is already under way with the Pacesetter campaign–an opportunity for senior UD administrators and employees to pledge to support the annual fund drive and set the stage for the campuswide kickoff on Oct. 12. This year's Pacesetter chair is Executive Vice President David Hollowell.

"I am confident that those solicited through the Pacesetter Program will, once again, provide the leadership to ensure the University goal of $210,000 will be met or exceeded," Hollowell said. "The United Way of Delaware provides essential support to many local community, social and healthcare agencies that provide important services or assist those with needs they cannot meet on their own. I urge the entire campus community to support this worthy cause."

Members of the University's 2000 United Way Planning Committee in addition to Henderson are J. Robin Buccos, health and nursing sciences; Shelly Burns, library; Robert DiIorio, University Media Services; Linda Flamer, civil and environmental engineering; Linda Hollis, University relations; Cathy Johnston, marine studies; Scott Mason, Trabant University Center; Carrie McMullen, chemical engineering; Tim Miller, human services, education and public policy; Greg Rumsey, agriculture; Joe Santivasci, registrar's office; Michael Stokes, arts and science; and Beth Thomas, public relations.

As in years past, a UD United Way video has been produced, and it will be premiered at the kickoff reception, at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Bob Carpenter Center.

During the program, campus solicitors will hear opening kickoff remarks from President Roselle and James A. Wolfe, 2000 United Way statewide campaign chairman and plant manager of DaimlerChrysler Corp. An electronic video link will occur enabling the program to be shown at the same time on the Lewes campus.

This year, a retiree campaign is being conducted from Sept. 20-Oct. 31. For information about the campaign or the video, which can be arranged to be shown in departments and offices, call 831-8823.
