UD announces tuition rates
for 2001-02 academic year

Tuition for full-time University of Delaware undergraduate and graduate students for 2001-02 will increase $260 for Delawareans and $600 for nonresidents.

The new annual rates are $4,770 for Delawareans and $13,860 for nonresident students, with the increase for nonresidents more than double the hike for in-state students.

"The University of Delaware continues to place a high premium on providing a quality education at an affordable rate," University President David P. Roselle said. "We were gratified by the recent report of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, which stated the University can be proud of its progress toward meeting the goal of affordability.

"The Middle States Commission noted that, over the last decade, the University has increased funds for undergraduate scholarships and financial aid by 213 percent while at the same time keeping tuition and room and board rates 'very affordable.' Indeed," Roselle said, "net tuition increases for Delaware residents have been smaller than increases in the Consumer Price Index.

"We believe the University of Delaware is a great value," Roselle said, noting that tuition increases for Delaware residents have been kept very low, never exceeding $200 annually, for the last 10 years.

Roselle said the tuition and fee hikes for the 2001-02 academic year result from numerous costs, such as salary increases, the installation of sprinklers in all residence halls and spiraling increases in energy costs.

Full-time graduate tuition is the same as that for undergraduates, with the exception of those students pursuing the master of business administration (MBA) degree.

The new tuition rate for full-time MBA students is $6,020 for Delawareans, an increase of $330, and $13,860 for non-resident students, an increase of $600.
