B&E reaccreditation recognizes
grad, undergraduate programs

The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business has reaccredited the University of Delaware College of Business and Economics business and accounting programs.

AACSB recognized the College of Business and Economics for achieving reaccreditation at both the undergraduate and graduate levels during its annual meeting held in April in New York City.

The reaccreditation, valid for a 10-year period, came after an extensive review of the college's programs, mission and objectives. The college was first accredited in 1966.

"The accreditation process provides us with an opportunity to take a comprehensive look at what we are doing and how we are doing it," Dean Michael Ginzberg said. "Further, it requires that we present that comprehensive review to an outside panel of experts– primarily deans of other business schools–who can review it with an unbiased eye. Their review helps both by confirming what you are doing well and by identifying opportunities you did not see.

"The review we received from our Peer Review Team was very much like what we might have received had we hired a group of outside consultants to evaluate the college," Ginzberg said. "They confirmed what we already believed–that the college is doing many things very well. We will also be able to use their suggestions to make improvements."

AACSB, organized in 1916, is a nonprofit corporation of educational institutions, corporations and other organizations devoted to the promotion and improvement of higher education in business administration and management.

It is the premier accrediting agency for undergraduate and graduate degree programs in business administration and accounting with membership of more than 650 educational institutions in the U.S. and another 170 internationally.

As of April 2001, AACSB had awarded accreditation to 405 institutions worldwide for their business programs and to about 100 for their accounting programs.
