Women's rowing team tops
in Philly's Dad Vail Regatta

The University of Delaware women's rowing team brought home a first place trophy in the "big daddy" of college rowing competitions, the Dad Vail Regatta, held Saturday on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.

Delaware won the lightweight varsity eights competition, and Blue Hen crews placed in the top five in four other events to capture the overall team title, finishing in front of more than 115 other universities.

The championship was the most impressive milestone in the three-year history of varsity women's rowing at UD, according to head coach Amanda Kukla. The Blue Hens finished third in 1999 and tied for second last year at the historic regatta.

Delaware's lightweight varsity eights entered the Dad Vail ranked eighth nationally.
