New assistant director in operations and maintenance
Bennett's responsibilities include the operation of all building systems on campus involving repair, remodeling and engineering activities, and the repairs and maintenance of the campus infrastructure systems, including domestic water, gas, electrical, sanitary, sewer and storm drainage systems. Before coming to UD, Bennett was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy's Civil Engineer Corps and was in charge of construction at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in 29 Palms, Calif. Responsible for the maintenance of more than 2,000 structures and all types of utility systems, Bennett also was in charge of the future growth, upgrade and repair of residence halls and classroom facilities for the Marine Computer and Electronics School, which trains more than 8,000 students annually. A professional engineer and a certified plant engineer, Bennett holds a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering from the University of New Mexico and a master's degree in civil engineering from Purdue University. |
