Innovation Award winners Two groups of employees will be recognized for excellence tonight during the annual Service Awards dinner when they are presented the University of Delaware's 2001 Innovation Award for projects that dramatically change the way things are done at the University.
Members of "The Problem-Based Learning Clearinghouse" team include Eric Abbott, Carl Jacobson, Joy Lynam and Maria Mullin, all Information Technologies/Management Information Services; Deborah Allen, biological sciences; Gretchen Bauer, political science and international relations; Barbara Duch, Mathematics and Science Resource Education Center; Susan Groh, chemistry and biochemistry; Sherry Kitto, plant and soil sciences; Elizabeth Lieux, nutrition and dietetics; and George Watson, physics and astronomy. According to President David Roselle, "This project, which provides an opportunity for faculty to publish their teaching experiences online, using the web to reach a national and international audience, represents a highly creative use of technology." He added that the team's project has helped solidify UD's national leadership role in problem-based learning.
"Functioning as a customer-oriented procurement program," Roselle said, "UDMart combines convenience for department and office purchasers, while integrating financial transaction with University accounting processes." The president added that improved customer satisfaction and increased efficiency have been the results of new applications of technology in this area. Members of the UDMart team include Jim Crowe and Shirley Shrewsbury, both Campus Delivery; Kathy Haddaway and Tory Windley, Purchasing; Bruce Raker and Jane Wise, Information Technologies/ Management Information Services; and Gary Reisinger, Central Stores. Each of the team members received a $250 award. |
