DiLorenzo resigns as dean
of A&S; acting dean named

Thomas M. DiLorenzo, dean of the College of Arts and Science since 1999, has resigned and will return to the faculty, as of June 30.

Provost Mel Schiavelli announced that, effective July 1, Mark W. Huddleston, associate provost for international programs and special sessions, will serve as acting dean.

In a letter to college faculty and staff, Schiavelli wrote, "I know that you share my sincere gratitude for Tom DiLorenzo's fine service to the College of Arts and Science for the past two years. It has been a distinct pleasure to work with Tom to enhance the programs in the College of Arts and Science."

In a letter to his college colleagues, DiLorenzo wrote, "Let me say that it has been a pleasure to work with you over these past two years and I would like to thank you for your support and encouragement as we have sought to move the college forward.... I am very pleased to be joining the faculty and look forward to serving the college in this new role."

Huddleston, who was named associate provost last fall, has been a member of the political science faculty since 1980.

The College of Arts and Science is the largest of the University's seven colleges, with majors ranging from anthropology to women's studies. Currently, 9,366 full- and part-time students are enrolled in the college, including 8,276 undergraduates and 1,090 graduate students.
