UDWC honors woman of year

The University of Delaware Women's Club will honor its 2001 Woman of the Year at a luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, at Clayton Hall.

This year's recipient Fiona Paul Murray, wife of Frank Murray, H. Rodney Sharp Professor of Educational Studies and Psychology and former dean of the College of Education. She was selected for her volunteerism and service to the University of Delaware over the years and especially for her role in fostering international friendships and understanding. Murray and her family have hosted numerous foreign visitors, she was instrumental in the Christina District's Back to Back program and served often as homeroom mother and as chaperone on out-of-state trips with the Newark High School Band when her children were in school.

She currently chairs the University of Delaware Women's Club International Hospitality Group, arranging for international women faculty, graduate students and their spouses to learn more about American customs and daily life. Murray also has edited her local church newsletter, as well as a regional one for many years, and is involved in the church's music program. Her colleagues call her the "ultimate volunteer," usually working behind the scenes.

The luncheon cost is $15 and will feature an Italian feast with music and prizes.
