Take a tour of Lewes facilities

Guided tours of the UD's research facilities at the College of Marine Studies on the Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes are available for middle and high school students and teachers.

The tours, which allow students to get a firsthand look at science in action, begin with a 15-minute introductory video showcasing the college's research activities at sites ranging from the beaches of the Delaware to the remote sensing lab in Newark.

Also included in the day's activities is a walking tour of Cannon and Smith laboratories in Lewes, where students can inspect sophisticated scientific equipment and stop by the World Ocean Data Information Center to learn how data bases for international climate research are maintained.

Free tours may be scheduled for classes of five or more persons. Tour hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Requests should be made at least one week in advance. For information, call (302) 645-4346 or send e-mail to Bob Carnahan at [rcarn@udel.edu].
