CTE grant deadline April 9 The Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE) has modified its annual competition for instructional improvement grants, supporting fewer projects but at an increased level of funding per project Each year, funds will be awarded in a focused area of learning and teaching that advances the University's teaching mission and gives greater visibility to innovation in higher education. CTE invites proposals by April 9 on this year's area of focus: the area of advanced and emerging technologies in instructional contexts: e.g., the use of Internet 2, wireless and virtual reality in instruction. Proposals must advance departmental, college and University goals by making significant use of advanced or emerging technologies linked to student learning. Proposed activities must go beyond what is normally expected of a faculty member for curricular updating, change and employment of instructional technologies. For example, a proposal to convert a course to WebCT is not considered to be beyond normal expectations. Proposals may be for development that has established results or for "proof of concept": i.e., a coherent and well-defined pilot that may lead to significant results. The amount of each award will depend on the scope of the project, up to a maximum of $20,000 in funds from CTE. Because of the expense of advanced technology, some proposals may require support in excess of $20,000. These proposals should indicate in the budget the full amount needed and other possible sources of funding. It is anticipated that three or four proposals will be supported. Interested faculty are encouraged to discuss their ideas with William Frawley, CTE academic affairs committee, at 831-1173, before submission. Full details on proposal format, length and criteria for submission and evaluation are located at the CTE web site at [http://www.udel. edu/cte]. Ten copies of the proposals are due by 4:30 p.m., April 9, to William Frawley, Advanced and Emerging Technologies Fund, Center for Teaching Effectiveness, 212 Gore Hall. An announcement of the funding decisions is expected in mid-April. |
