New Perkins Center Garage opens for spring semester

The Perkins Student Center Garage entrance off Academy Street

The new Perkins Student Center Garage, located at the intersection of Academy and Courtney streets, adjacent to the Perkins Student Center, opened Feb. 1.

The 503-space facility is accessible 24 hours a day for gate-controlled and cash users. An attendant is present from 6:30 a.m.-1:30 a.m., seven days a week. A self-service pay station, which only accepts cash, is available for use when the attendant is not present.

Parking costs are

• 55 cents per half hour or part thereof, with no maximum fee, from 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Mondays-Fridays; and
  
  
• 30 cents per half hour or part thereof, with a maximum fee of $2, from 6 p.m.-6:30 a.m., Mondays-Fridays, and throughout Saturdays and Sundays.

Currently, patrons with validated receipts and Flex customers will need to use the attendant booth, which is open from 6:30 a.m.-1:30 a.m., seven days a week. Plans are under way to allow Flex users to take advantage of the self-service pay station, but this service will not be available until spring.

Some 100 spaces in the garage have been set aside for resident student parking at a cost of $220 for the semester. These spaces are being offered to East Campus and South Central residents in the order they purchased their permits through Park by Phone.

Another 200 spaces have been set aside for staff gate-control parking at a cost of $210 for the period from February–August.

The entrance to the parking garage is on Academy Street, just south of the Perkins Student Center, through the driveway that formerly served as the entrance to the parking lot there. The garage exit is onto Courtney Street.

Construction continues on the office site adjacent to the Perkins Student Center Garage, with completion planned in March.
