Wayne Buchanan, energy conversion, has been an enthusiastic donor to the United Way for many years.
"The United Way is a great organization," he said, "and provides a means of contributing to many worthwhile organizations in the community and to people who need assistance.
"My wife, Sally, who also worked for the University for close to 16 years, and I both support the United Way and know that our money will be put to good use," he added.
Buchanan was last year's winner of the Campbell Travel Center incentive prize.
"It was a total surprise," he recalled. "Unfortunately, my brother in New Hampshire was seriously ill, and we used part of the prize to go see him before he died and to attend his funeral in Arlington National Cemetery.
"The people at Campbell's were extremely kind and helpful in making the arrangements, which made a difficult time easier."
On a happier note, the Buchanans used the remainder of the prize to take their two daughters, Sheena and Catriona, to Williamsburg, Va., for a week's vacation this summer. While there, they enjoyed historic sites and other area attractions.
