Local actors Steve Tague and Kathleen Pirkl Tague, both of Newark, star in Harold Pinter's theatrical masterpiece, Betrayal, opening at UD on Thursday, Oct. 28.
Part of the Professional Theatre Training Program's 1999-2000 Alumni Season, the play uses flashbacks to examine the intricacies of betrayal buried in an extramarital affair. When information is withheld, friends are deceived and lovers are rejected, betrayal takes many forms.
All of the performances take place in Hartshorn Hall. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and are scheduled on Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 28-30; Thursday-Friday, Nov. 11-12; Tuesday-Wednesday, Nov. 16-17; and Saturday, Nov. 20. Matinee performances are scheduled at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 7; and Saturday, Nov. 13.

The popular annual event known as Midnight Mania will be held Friday, Oct. 15, at the Bob Carpenter Center. It is the first official practice for the 1999-2000 University of Delaware men's and women's basketball teams.
Admission is free for the fun-filled late evening activity. From 11 p.m.-midnight, fans can participate in shooting contests against UD coaches while enjoying the music of the band Regular Size Monster.
From midnight to 1 a.m., the men's and women's teams will be introduced. There also will be the Men's Slam-Dunk Contest, a women's scrimmage and men's scrimmage.

Hogan, director of the Population Studies and Training Center at Brown, is the author of numerous articles and several books. His best know works are Southern Nations and Nationalities: People's Region Community and Family Survey 1997; Family, Political Economy and Demographic Change: The Transformation of Life in Casalecchio, Italy, 1861-1912; Transitions and Social Change: The Early Lives of American Men and Fertility and Family Planning in Rural Thailand.
A distinguished demographer and sociologist, Hogan has served as chairperson of the American Sociological Association's section on the sociology of population and on the board of directors of the Population Association of America. His areas of research are aging, social support networks and the life course in comparative perspective.

Sun Microsystems invites the entire campus community to a daylong series of demonstrations and presentations about its vision of future developments in the networked age.
Presenters at this event, set today, Oct. 14, will discuss Java, JINI and other technology from Sun.
Formal presentations will be held in the Trabant University Center Theatre, with demonstrations in nearby areas. Sun will provide refreshments, door prizes and raffle prizes to attendees.
The schedule of events begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast.
At 10 a.m., the morning presentations will focus on "JINI, Java, and the Future of Networks."
At noon, participants will break for lunch on their own.
"PORTALS! Netscape/AOL/ SUN Alliance" is the topic of the afternoon session at 2 p.m.
Afternoon refreshments and a raffle will conclude the day's events.
Registration is now open for the January session of the Institute for Transforming Undergraduate Education (ITUE).
This five-day workshop will demonstrate problem-based learning (PBL) and model ways that PBL can be used effectively in all disciplines, in upper and lower division courses, and in all size classes. Participants will learn how to integrate Internet resources into their courses and use technology effectively in active, group-based learning.
Morning sessions will focus on effective ways of using problem-based instruction and develop materials and problems appropriate for use in groups. In the afternoon sessions, participants will have the opportunity to develop their skills in using Internet resources in their courses.
The sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday, Jan. 10-14, in Rooms 102 and 103 of Colburn Laboratory.

Walt Disney World College Program Recruiters will be on campus at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3, in Room 120 of Smith Hall.

The band Lit will open the Garbage concert Nov. 4 in the Bob Carpenter Center.
Garbage came on the scene in the early 199s and its performances span as many emotional lines as its music--including rock, pop, techno and goth. The group won rave reviews for its 1995 self-titled debut album, which it followed with the strong Version 2.0 in 1998.
The concert is being held in conjunction with MTV Village--a free daytime festival featuring a variety of music and lifestyle oriented activities--to be held on Nov. 4 on the north side of Harrington Beach, near the Perkins Student Center.
Tickets are on sale at the Bob Carpenter Center and Trabant University Center box offices and through Ticketmaster.
