Meeting scheduled Oct. 15 on Pathways Discovery Program

Members of the University community are invited to an information meeting from 2-3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 15, in Room 100 Wolf Hall to learn about the Pathways to Discovery Program and its Faculty Development Institute, which will be conducted from Jan. 24-28, during Winter Session.

The Pathways to Discovery Program is an innovative, interdisciplinary, thematic approach to teaching first-year students. Faculty members thinking about teaching in the forthcoming Pathways Program, or who want to learn more about it, are invited to attend this meeting.

While the General Education Reform Committee proposal is being discussed in the Faculty Senate, it is not too early to plan to develop and teach a Pathways course in the fall 2000 semester. Also, new courses can be submitted for acceptance as part of the current general education requirements.

Provost Mel Schiavelli and members of the Pathways Planning Committee will be present to describe the program, answer questions and provide information about the Pathways Institute, which is being conducted to assist participants in developing Pathways courses--including content, strategies and syllabi.

This session is sponsored by the General Education Reform Committee and Pathways to Discovery Steering Committee.
