Peter Black, who at 76 is UD's oldest freshman, wants to write his memoirs and is taking courses to help him get started. He plans to document his early life as the son of Greek immigrants, his wartime experience in the merchant marine and his varied life thereafter. Last spring, he took a class in expository writing and is enrolled this semester in an introduction to Western philosophy course.
"I don't know that the philosophy course will help me shape my memoirs, but I'm enjoying it all the same," Black said, "because I've always been fascinated by Plato and Pythagoras. I love being here. The people at UD are like my extended family-it's great being with the kids and seeing what the future of this country will be like."
