UD Women's Club names alumna Woman of the Year

Peggy Bedingfield Sullivan, AS `71, has been recognized as the University of Delaware Women's Club's Woman of the Year Award recipient for her contributions to the community.

A Newark resident since 1956, and a 1967 graduate of Newark High School, Sullivan has been associated with UD since her days as an undergraduate student.

The first student representative on the UD Faculty Senate, Sullivan, also served as secretary and senator-at-large for the UD Student Government Association.

Sullivan's career at UD has included working at alumni, admissions, urban affairs and continuing education.

From 1979 to 1987, Sullivan worked in the Office of Alumni Relations. She retired from UD in 1994.

Her volunteer activities include support of the Blue-Gold All Star Football Game, which she has served as chairperson and a committee member; campaign cabinet member for the Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame; and secretary of the Blue Hen Basketball Club.

A member of the Hewlett-Packard Scholarship Committee, which meets annually to determine student awards, Sullivan also is involved with several projects for Newark High School, including the upcoming Millennium Reunion for everyone who has ever attended Newark High.

Sullivan says she is grateful for the opportunities her volunteer efforts have afforded her.
