"This semester has been a busy time learning about the Greek community at UD," Cappello said. "We have been especially busy getting things ready for the activities of Greek Week, which ran from April 29 through May 6. Fraternity and sorority members were involved in activities every day?from the March of Dimes WalkAmerica event to Airband, where the Greek groups performed and raised $2,000 for Dream Catchers, a campus for children affected by HIV and AIDS, and also collected canned foods for Food Bank of Delaware." A native of New Hampshire, Cappello received a bachelor's degree of psychology from Plymouth State College in 1995 and became involved with the AmeriCorps program after graduation. While in the Learn and Serve bracket of the AmeriCorps program, Cappello completed a year of national service at the community center of St. Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. In the fall of 1997, she entered a master's program in college student personnel at Bowling Green State University, where she also served as live-in house director for the Theta Chi fraternity and graduate adviser to the Interfraternity Council. Since coming to Delaware, Cappello said she has enjoyed meeting students, faculty and staff, and becoming involved in Greek activities on the campus. "I plan to learn more about all the amazing things that UD offers, including the potential that exists within the area of Greek affairs," Cappello said. "It is my hope to work with the leadership of the chapters and move them to the next level." These chapters include 11 National Panhellenic Conference sororities, 19 North American Interfraternity Conference fraternities, three special interest sororities and one special interest fraternity. UD also has seven historically African-American organizations, which are a part of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), including three sororities and four fraternities. In addition to the activities held during Greek Week, other annual Greek activities include Homecoming, Make a Difference Day, fall and spring fashion shows, a dance marathon the Delta Leadership Conference and Delta Derby.
