K.I.D.D.S. 5K walk/run May 4

UD senior Kama Boland, Miss Delaware 1999, and graduate student Jody Kelly, Miss Delaware 1998, are organizing the fourth annual 5K Walk/Run for Scholarship & Supporting K.I.D.D.S. (kids involved in death, divorce and separation) to be held Thursday, May 4, in Rockford Park, Wilmington.

Race day registration will take place from 5:30-6:15 p.m. with the run beginning at 6:30 p.m. and the walk at 6:31 p.m. Preregistration is $12 and race day registration is $15.

The Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization, which awarded more than $30,000 in scholarships in 1999, is a part of the Miss America Scholarship Organization, which provided more than $32 million in scholarships for women in the United States.

K.I.D.D.S. is a nonprofit agency that provides a safe, caring environment for children and teenagers faced with a significant loss. Volunteers are trained and supervised by a licensed professional to help children understand their reactions and to cope with loss and to give guidance to parents and guardians.

Boland has been an active volunteer with K.I.D.D.S. for the past four years and received the 1998 State Community Service Award from the Miss America Organization for her involvement.

Organizations throughout the state are invited to become sponsors of the May event. For more information on the 5K for Scholarship/Supporting K.I.D.D.S., call the race hotline at 234-9808.
