Kate Pohlig interim chair
of NCAA rules committee

Kate Pohlig, associate director of athletics at UD, has been named interim chairperson of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee.

Pohlig, who has served the last 11 years with the UD athletics department, replaces Sue Donohoe, who recently accepted the position as director of the NCAA Division I women’s basketball championships. Pohlig will serve as interim chair until September.

In her position with the NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee, Pohlig is responsible for communicating with committee members dealing with rules issues within women’s basketball, working with NCAA staff liasions in informing committee members of annual meetings, special circumstances requiring action during the year and dealing with questions and concerns raised relative to specific playing rules.

She also will preside at all NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee meetings, jointly preside with the men’s basketball chairperson at joint meetings and prepare all committee recommendations requiring approval of the NCAA Management Council or Executive Committee.

At UD, Pohlig is responsible for facility management and scheduling, risk management, contest scheduling and contracts for all athletic squads except football, fitness, cheerleading and championships. She serves as Delaware’s representative to the America East Championships and Competition Committee and has been tournament director for numerous America East tournaments, including the one-site Men’s Basketball Tournament hosted by Delaware since 1995.

Pohlig earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education and master’s degree in athletic administration, both from West Chester University.

She played four years for the nationally ranked West Chester basketball team, earning an Olympic tryout in 1975. She also was a standout softball player. Before coming to Delaware, Pohlig worked in the athletic departments at LaSalle and West Chester universities.
