| A new workshop for employees on Managing Cash Receipts, on Thursday, Feb. 17, has been added to the spring training schedule.
Since many University offices engage in activities that require the collection and handling of cash, employees entrusted with cash management responsibilities need to know and understand the policies, practices and controls that should be followed to protect the Universitys cash assets. According to Richie Holland, human resources, This workshop will be conducted by staff members in the Office of Billing and Collection, which includes Account Services, Cashiers and Collection Services, and will provide and overview of the responsibilities of every employee who handles University cash. Discussion time will include information on the proper procedures for billing using electronic forms and invoices, preparing cash transmittals and following up on unpaid account receivables. Cash is defined as checks, currency, coins, money orders, credit card payments, UD1-Flex and dining points. According to Angela Beecham, billing and collection, A similar workshop was offered several years ago. Since that time, as a result of personnel turnover, we believe it is timely to resume offering the workshop. In fact, employees who attended an earlier workshop are encouraged to attend again to refresh their knowledge. Because of the importance of effective cash management, we plan to offer this workshop regularly in the future. All employees who are responsible for cash receipts and their supervisors should attend, Beecham added. According to Jacqueline Caleb, Cashiers Office, some common errors dealing with cash handling include not depositing checks in a timely manner, not depositing receipts intact, not keeping back-up detail for deposits, directing payment to a departmental office instead of the Cashiers Office and not segregating duties, which leaves too much liability on one person. This workshop will address these errors and show how following the established policies is beneficial to the individual cash handler, the department and the University, Caleb said. The workshop, to be held from 10 a.m.-noon, Feb. 17, in Multipurpose Room A of the Trabant University Center, is being offered by the Offices of Billing and Collection and Employee Training and Career Development. The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 11. To register, access the employee training home page at <http://www.udel.edu/EmployeeTraining>. For additional information, contact Holland at 831-2059. |
