Chem sciences major named
top scholar by chemical society

Cory Ocasio, AS 2001, has been selected as a 1999-2000 American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholar, according to John Burmeister, Alumni Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, winning a scholarship up to $2,500 per year.

Ocasio is the third UD chemistry major to be chosen for this recognition, joining Akeed Habeeb, AS '98, and Joshua Figueroa, AS 2000.

The ACS program helps high-achieving minority students in the chemical sciences to reach their educational goals and also increases the number of minority scientists in graduate school and the workforce.

This year, ACS awarded scholarships to 170 students in 37 states to study chemistry, chemical engineering, chemical technology and related disciplines. In addition to the scholarships, ACS focuses on mentoring and experience and networking opportunities for scholars in the program.
