Admissions viewbook design
recognized for innovation

The University of Delaware viewbook recently appeared in Print Magazine's Regional Design Annual 1999 for its outstanding design.

The viewbook, which is a departure from the former traditional format, was designed by Spot Design of New York City to appeal to high school students who drive the college decision process, according to Amy Greenwald Foley, enrollment services, who coordinated and worked on the project. Highlighting individual faculty, students and researchers, the viewbook presents information on colleges, sports the honors program and other phases of college life in an informal style.

"A few years ago, a marketing firm carried out research and helped us solidify our message to students whom we wished to attract. The theme of all our publications is 'Life shouldn't be ordinary- not now, not ever.' We focused on four areas that are important to students: our campus is an active and vibrant academic community, our teachers teach as well as conduct research, our graduates are successful after leaving UD and we offer a traditional, green campus, located in the center of the East coast, and accessible to cities from New York to Washington," Foley said.

"Our program has been successful," she added. "The caliber of students has improved, and of those who are admitted, 40 percent accept, up from 32 percent two years ago, which is far above the average."
