Girls and science

More than 50 Junior Girl Scouts, ages 8-11, worked on their math whiz, aerospace and architecture badges, with a helping hand from members of the UD student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers. On Nov. 20 at Colburn Laboratory, the students, who are role models for the scouts, planned several hands-on, science activities, from building three types of paper planes to projects involving measuring and drawing to scale. According to the chapter president, Jenny Stevenson, this is the second year for this event, which demonstrates opportunities for girls in science.
