Burger King honors athlete with scholarship in his name

Senior fullback and special teams captain Steve Ricco from Plainview, N.Y., was honored as Burger King Scholar-Athlete of the Week, and a $10,000 scholarship in his name was presented to UD Oct. 16 before the Homecoming game with Lehigh University.

With him on the field during the check presentation ceremony (shown above) were Al Suber, Burger King regional representative, and Steve's parents, Sharon and John Ricco.

A Co-SIDA Academic All-America candidate, who is a three-time member of the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team, Ricco has a 3.4 grade point average, earned his degree in biology in May and is currently working on a second degree in economics.

Each year, Burger King donates $1 million to college scholarship funds in the names of college football players who maintain high academic standards and are actively involved in the community.
