Different broadcast team to air Blue Hen football

The Blue Hens will open the 1999 season tonight under the lights in Delaware Stadium.

This fall, the new radio team of Mike Corey and Bill Komissaroff will provide color and play-by-play for the Fightin' Blue Hens football season, as a part of the University's new $1.2 million venture with Delaware State Radio Network.

Corey will serve as the play-by-play man for Blue Hen sporting events. The Brattleboro, Vt., native served previously as the play-by-play voice of the UMass Sports Network on WHMP radio in Northampton, Mass.

A 1999 graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a bachelor's degree in communication, Corey also served as the sports director at WMUA radio in Amherst. While there, Corey called the action for UMass men's and women's basketball, football, ice hockey, baseball and men's lacrosse.

Komissaroff will team with Corey as the color commentator on the Blue Hen broadcasts. The Wilmington native began his career as a play-by-play announcer, calling area high school football and basketball games. From 1991-93, Komissaroff produced Phillies and Villanova University basketball broadcasts at WOGL-AM in Philadelphia.

Along with serving as the public address announcer for Blue Hen men's and women's basketball games for the last four seasons, Komissaroff has spent the last three seasons on the broadcast team for Wilmington Blue Rocks Friday Night Baseball. A 1987 graduate of the University of Richmond with a bachelor's degree in history and speech communication/theatre arts, Komissaroff also has worked as news/traffic reporter at WDEL-AM and WSTW-FM for the last five years.

"The athletic program is excited about the new broadcast relationship we have with WRDX and WJBR," Edgar Johnson, athletics, said. "We are pleased to have two talented individuals in Mike Corey and Bill Komissaroff broadcast our games. We welcome them to our team and I can't wait to hear them together calling our games and representing our great University. It all kicks off Sept. 2."

Beginning with this season's opener tonight against William & Mary, UD football will be heard statewide on flagship station WRDX-FM (94.7), marking the first time that Delaware football has been broadcast on a commercial FM station. UD men's basketball, select women's basketball games and other athletic contests will be heard on WJBR-AM (1290) in Wilmington and on other stations throughout the state.
