Alan Fox, associate professor of philosophy and director of East Asian Studies, will be the faculty director of the Honors Program beginning Sept. 1.
“Prof. Fox is strongly committed to the University and he is an excellent teacher,” Rodríguez said. “The teaching awards that he has won throughout the years are testimony to that. He is currently a key and a central player in the Honors Program; he is an excellent choice for the director of this program.”
Avron Abraham, associate professor of health, nutrition and exercise sciences, is now the faculty director of University Studies and Academic Enrichment, the product of two merged offices.
“There are important programmatic initiatives that take place in both offices that would benefit from greater interaction and integration between them,” Rodríguez said. “Avron Abraham is very talented, enthusiastic, and very experienced: he will make significant contributions in this new position.”
The Ronald E. McNair program, headed by Program Director Maria Palacas, has been moved to the Office of Undergraduate Research and Service Learning, whose faculty director remains Lynnette Overby.
The Office of Special Sessions, whose administrator is Allan Fanjoy, is now part of the Office of the University Registrar.
John Courtright, director of the Associate in Arts Degree Program, will report to the Office of the Provost beginning Sept. 1.
Rodríguez said the changes are designed to make the units more efficient and to gear the programs toward the University's Path to Prominence™.
In addition to Overby, whose position has not changed, Lesa Griffiths remains director of the Center for International Studies, Martha Carothers is still the director of the Center for Teaching Effectiveness, and Karen Stein continues as faculty director of the Office of Educational Assessment, Rodríguez said.
