Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard Jr. Chair and director of the John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance, was quoted in a Sept. 16 Boston Globe story about a Wisconsin sect of monks who have found financial success selling office supplies. "I don't care whether you're an executive on Wall Street or a monk in the Midwest, the human spirit is, like it or not, pretty universal," Elson said. "Just because you're a monk, it doesn't mean you're exempt from asking the same questions: How much do you enjoy your success? And how much do you give away to help others?" Elson also appeared on the Sept. 17 American Public Media Marketplace morning program on National Public Radio to discuss the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Harry Shipman, Annie Jump Cannon Professor of Astronomy, and Judi Provencal, research associate in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, were quoted in a Sept. 15 News Journal story concerning their work as part of a team that is leading the study of a newly discovered planet that exists near a red giant star late in its life cycle. "The conventional wisdom is once a sun gets big, it eats all its planets, but this didn't happen," Shipman told the newspaper.

Gordon Johnson, of the UD Cooperative Extension Service, and Ian McCann, assistant professor of bioresources engineering, were quoted in a Sept. 14 News Journal story about Delaware crop loss due to drought. "In a year like this, if you are not an irrigated farmer, you took a big hit," McCann said.

Ken Miller, professor and director of the School of Nursing, was quoted in the September issue of The Nation's Health about retail-based health clinics.

Jeremy Firestone, marine policy scientist in the College of Marine and Earth Studies, was quoted in a Sept. 13 News Journal story about wind power.

Ed Ratledge, director of the Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research, was quoted in a Sept. 12 News Journal story about health care costs.

William Saylor, professor of animal and food sciences, was featured in a Sept. 11 American Association for the Advancement of Science Science Update program about special diets to curb the environmental impact of chickens.

Patrick Harker, president, was quoted in a Sept. 11 News Journal story about the most recent Faculty Senate meeting, during which he discussed the University's strategic planning process.

Fred DeMicco, ARAMARK Professor of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, was quoted in a July Bloomberg Markets magazine story about Americans traveling to Brazil as a popular plastic surgery destination.
