Midfielder Jordan Hall was the top pick in the entire draft as he was selected by the New York Titans, who received the top pick in a trade from the new Boston franchise. Later in the draft, defenseman Rob Smith was selected by New York as the 29th overall pick and face-off specialist Alex Smith was selected by Boston in the third round as the 32nd overall pick.
Both Hall and Alex Smith recently completed their first seasons in Major League Lacrosse, a professional outdoor lacrosse league. Alex Smith was named the MLL's top rookie while playing for the Rochester Rattlers and Hall was a member of the Chicago Machine.
Hall, a three-time All-CAA selection and the 2005 CAA Player of the Year, was Delaware's second leading scorer this season with 38 points on 26 goals and 12 assists. He scored at least one point in each of his final 31 career games and ended the season as the leading career scorer among all active NCAA Division I midfielders.
Alex Smith was a three-time All-America who established six NCAA records for face-offs and groundballs. He finished his career as the greatest face-off specialist in the history of the college game as he rewrote the NCAA record book. He led the nation in face-off percentage for the third straight season, winning 311 of 430 attempts, and also led the nation with a school-record 170 groundballs.
He established NCAA records for face-offs won in a season (311 in 2007) and career (1,027), face-offs attempted in a season (430 in 2007) and career (14,84), groundballs in a career (553), and face-off percentage in a game (1.000, winning 21 of 21 against Manhattan in 2006). He was named the 2007 CAA Player of the Year.
Rob Smith enjoyed an outstanding season as Delaware's top defenseman in 2007, playing for the Fightin' Blue Hens as a graduate student. He earned first team All-CAA honors this season, when he started all 19 games and scored five goals. He was second on the team with 21 caused turnovers and scooped up 52 groundballs.
