From 9:30-10:30, each of the core directors will give a short introduction:
- Bruce Kingham, associate scientist, animal and food sciences, will talk about DNA sequencing and genotyping;
- John Dykins, instructor and mass spectrometrist, chemistry and biochemistry, will discuss mass spectrometry;
- Shi Bai, assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry and NMR spectroscopist, will cover Nuclear Magnetic Resonance;
- Yu-Sung Wu, research associate, Center for Molecular Engineering and Thermodynamics, will speak about protein production;
- Douglas O'Neal, DBI manager, will discuss bioinformatics; and
- Kirk Czymmek, director and associate professor of biological sciences, will talk about bioimaging.
From 10:30 a.m-12:30 p.m., tours of core centers at DBI and on campus will be offered.
When registering, visitors should indicate which of the four tours being offered they would prefer:
- Tour A covers the Delaware Biotechnology Institute, with a focus on bioimaging and bioinformatics;
- Tour B covers chemistry and biochemistry, focusing on nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectroscopy;
- Tour C will be of the College of Agriculture, with a focus on DNA sequencing and genotyping; and
- Tour D will look at all three of the facilities--DBI, chemistry and biochemistry, and the College of Agriculture.
Registration is required and refreshments will be provided at the event. To register, go to [http://secure.dbi.udel.edu/registration/openhouse].
